NORTH BETHESDA, MD – Folk music icon Arlo Guthrie brings his seminal hit “Alice’s Restaurant” to the Music Center at Strathmore on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 8 p.m., continuing his epic journey across North America in celebration of the anthem’s 50th anniversary. The son of the folk movement’s founding father, Arlo Guthrie made a name for himself that extends even beyond father Woody’s legacy. At Strathmore, Guthrie will perform his much-loved, seldom-played megahit epic in its entirety, along with other well-known songs. A musical monologue running more than 18 minutes, “Alice’s Restaurant” originates from Guthrie’s experience on Thanksgiving in 1965. The song is now woven into the fabric of American society, both as a Thanksgiving holiday anthem and an enduring rally song.

For the last five decades, Guthrie has carried on his family’s legacy of sharing timeless stories and unforgettable classics to audiences far and wide. The Alice’s Restaurant 50th Anniversary Tour brings together an ensemble of fine musicians. Guthrie’s deft band includes Terry Hall (drums), Bobby Sweet (guitar, vocals), Darren Todd (bass), and his son, Abe Guthrie (keyboards). Each performance includes an awe-inspiring light show with previously unseen images from the Guthrie archives. More than 75,000 photos have recently been digitized, and selections will be projected during the evening.
