Journalist, Award-winning Producer to Discuss "Secret Daughter"; Relates story of bei

The heart-rending story of a mixed race daughter and the mother who gave her away will be discussed by June Cross, the author of “Secret Daughter,” at the next meeting of the African American Book Discussion Group of the Rockville Library to be held on June 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the First Floor Meeting Room. The library is located at 21 Maryland Ave.

In her autobiography, Cross tells how her mother, an aspiring actress, gave away her four-year-old daughter when the child could no longer pass for white. The author will read from her book, and a question-and-answer period will follow.

Cross is a professor at Columbia University and an award-winning producer with 30 years of television news and documentary experience. She has worked on PBS’s “Frontline,” and the “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour,” in addition to “CBS NEWS.”
