CRIME ANALYSIS SECTION

Note that additional incidents may have occurred, but the reports may not have been received at the time of this overview..

District Overview:

· Vehicle-related thefts have become somewhat active in the A1 beat, particularly in the Dewey road area.

· Extra vigilance by patrol has greatly reduced the number of recent commercial smash and grab burglaries, with only one verified event since Wednesday 4/25

A1 Beat:

· A possible attempted burglary occurred on Wednesday 4/25 between midnight and 8:10 am hours at J & J Laundromat located at 12206 Veirs Mill Road. The front door glass was cracked, but not shattered, and no entry was made. This is the same scenario seen at the Pollo Dorado restaurant at 12218 four nights earlier.

· Of the six reported vehicle-related thefts, three were in the same general area that occurred overnight between Monday 4/30 and Tuesday 5/1. All were most likely unsecured and loose items (coins, GPS units, and purses) were stolen.

· The residential burglary in the 12100 block of Putnum Road on Tuesday 5/1 involved a female ex-tenant who, while the owner was out of town, broke a rear window for entry and moved her belongings back in. She was arrested on scene.
Defendant: Shantini Senanayake, 50 years old

A2 Beat:

· The Tia Ochi Beer & Wine (formerly Jack’s Pizza) at 806 Baltimore Road was burglarized for the third time in April on Wednesday 4/25 at 2:28 am. Eight minutes earlier, the business checked secure by a passing patrol officer.

· The residential burglary on Radford Court on Friday 4/27 was domestic-related.

A3 Beat:

· On Thursday 4/26 around 3:50 am, a subject was seen driving at a high rate of speed along South Stonestreet Ave in what turned out to be a stolen vehicle from Fairfax County. Units turned to investigate and found the vehicle (a 1996 Honda Accord with red rims) abandoned in the 400 block of Joseph Street. The only description of the suspect was a Hispanic Male with dark hair. The vehicle’s ignition had been punched.

A4 Beat:

· An attempted burglary occurred in the 17100 block of Overhill Road sometime between Wednesday 4/25 and Monday 4/30. Pry marks were found around the lock and strike plate of the rear basement door. No entry was made and there have been no other similar reports made from this area this year.

B1 Beat:

· Two Honda vehicles were broken into in parking lots behind Congressional Plaza between Tuesday 4/24 at 9:00 pm and Wednesday 4/25 at 6:00 am. Stereo CD players were the primary target in each:
  • 630 block of East Jefferson Street 1997 Honda Accord
  • 200 block of Congressional Lane 2000 Honda Civic

B2 Beat:

· An attempted burglary occurred on Wednesday 4/25 between 10:15 am and 11:45 am in the 11600 block of Milbern Drive. The screen was removed from a rear kitchen window and the glass partially broken, but no entry was made.
Suspect: Black Male 17 to 18 years, 5’11” to 6’0”, thin build, with dreadlocks

B3 Beat:

· A bank robbery occurred at the Wachovia Branch located at 9812 Falls Road on Friday 4/27 around 9:30 am. Two suspects entered wearing masks holding silver semi-automatic handguns.
Suspect: Black Male 35 to 45 years, 6’2”, 230, khaki jacket, khaki pants, Halloween mask
Suspect: Black Male 30 to 40 years, 6’0”, 210, dark hoody, dark jeans, black ski mask

B4 Beat:

· The front door was kicked in to allow access to a residence in the 14600 block of Keeneland Circle on Friday 4/27 between 2:30 pm and 6:00 am. The victim’s room in the basement was ransacked. Clothes and electronics were stolen.

· An unlocked vehicle in an open garage in the 15000 block Spring Meadow Drive was searched on Friday 4/27, probably around 2:00 am. Electronic items were stolen. Two other unlocked vehicles in the 15200 block were also entered with other electronic devices stolen.

· On Tuesday 5/1, neighbors called complaining of gunfire in the 14900 block of Kelley Farm Drive. Subjects have been questioned and the investigation is still on-going.
