Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious single-car collision that occurred this morning in Wheaton.
At approximately 4:25 this morning, 4th District officers responded to Randolph Road just east of Connecticut Avenue for the report a personal injury collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 silver Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on Randolph Road when for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the car which struck a curb, a speed limit sign, a tree in a residential front yard in the 3600 block of Randolph Road, and then two parked vehicles, before it flipped over and came to rest.
The driver, 21-year-old Melvin Rocha-Zalvala, from the 700 block of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg, is in critical condition at the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center.
