Default Metro Weekend Track Work July 6-8, 2012

Metro Weekend Track Work July 6-8, 2012

Buses Replace Train on Portions of the Red,
Orange and Blue Lines as Rebuilding Continues

The massive effort to rebuild Metrorail will continue over the weekend of July 6-8 on the Orange, Blue, Red and Green Lines. The work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Sunday.

Orange Line
Buses will replace Orange Line trains between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton to allow track maintenance, tie and fastener renewal, grout work and platform rehabilitation. Five Orange Line stations will be closed: New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue. Orange Line trains will operate between Vienna and Stadium-Armory at regular weekend intervals. Free shuttle bus service will operate on two routes: Local service between all closed stations (between New Carrollton and Stadium-Armory). Customers using local shuttle bus service should add up to one hour to their travel time. Express service between New Carrollton and Stadium-Armory stations only (no intermediate stops). Customers using express shuttle bus service should add about 30 minutes to their travel time. View Advisory

Blue Line
Buses will replace Blue Line trains between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road stations to allow for track maintenance, tie and fastener renewal, grout work and platform rehabilitation. Blue Line trains will operate in two segments: between Benning Road and Largo Town Center and between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory, both at regular weekend intervals. Customers traveling through the work zone should allow 30 minutes of additional travel time. Free shuttle bus service will operate between the stations throughout the weekend. Both Stadium-Armory and Benning Road stations will remain open for connections to Metrorail service. View Advisory

Red Line
Buses will replace Red Line trains between Brookland-CUA and Silver Spring to allow for tie and insulator renewal, bridge repair and communication system improvements. Takoma Station will be closed. Fort Totten Station will be open for Green Line service only. Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Glenmont and Silver Spring and between Brookland-CUA and Shady Grove -- every 10 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and at regular weekend intervals at all other times. Free shuttle buses will operate between Silver Spring and Brookland, making stops at all intermediate stations. Customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time. View Advisory

Green/Yellow Lines
Green Line trains will single track between Fort Totten and Prince George's Plaza to allow for track maintenance, tie and fastener renewal and third-rail power improvements. Throughout the weekend, Green Line trains will operate every 16 minutes. Customers should allow about 10 minutes of additional travel time. As a result of the work zone, all Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mount Vernon Square only. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mount Vernon Square should use Green Line trains to complete their trip. View Advisory
