For Immediate ReleaseJuly 5, 2012

Programs in MCPS Schools to Continue, Friday, July 6;
Some Schools and Facilities Still Without Power

Programs and activities in Montgomery County Public Schools will be held on Friday, July 6 in schools that have power.

However, all activities and programs will be canceled in schools and facilities that do not have power Friday morning. A list of schools without power will be published Friday by 6 a.m. As of Thursday night, the following schools and facilities DO NOT have power (including two schools just added to the list Whetstone ES and Westland MS):
  • Beall Elementary School
  • Blair Ewing Center
  • Chevy Chase Elementary School
  • Farmland Elementary School
  • Northwood High School
  • Rocking Horse Road Center
  • Stonegate Elementary School
  • Washington Grove Elementary School
  • Julius West Middle School
  • Westland Middle School
  • Whetstone Elementary School
The Summer Regional High School program at Northwood High School is CANCELED Friday due to ongoing power problems in the building. Summer Regional High School programs at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Clarksburg and Churchill high schools WILL take place on Friday. As previously announced, the daily schedule is being extended to make up for lost instructional time at these schools.

MCPS administrative offices and facilities are open with the exception of the Rocking Horse Road Center, which is still without power as of Thursday night.

Community use of school buildings continues in schools that have power. This includes summer camps, recreation programs and daycare programs. However, check with your program administrator to verify program status.

Elementary Regional Summer School, ELO-SAIL, Middle School Extended Year, Extended School Year programs for special education students and Head Start summer programs will begin on Monday, July 9.
