Public Invited to Take Self-Guided Tour of Rainscapes Projects;
Rebates Available to Residents and Businesses Who Install Watershed-Friendly Landscapes

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is sponsoring a self-guided tour of RainScapes projects on June 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. RainScapes projects create environmentally and watershed friendly landscapes that reduce runoff to local streams and save money on maintenance. RainScapes techniques include rain gardens, conservation landscapes, canopy trees, green roofs, permeable pavements, rain barrels, cisterns and dry wells.

The self-guided tour features a range of project types on both public and private properties. A tour map of the locations with a detailed description of each project is available at http://goo.gl/maps/Gd0z.

Volunteers from the following organizations and some not affiliated with any specific group will be onsite at each location to assist tour participants: DEP, Audubon Naturalist Society, Green Wheaton, Friends of Sligo Creek, Friends of Cabin John, Garrett Park Conservation Action ...more
