“In the days since the senseless tragedy that took place on the Virginia Tech campus on Monday, the collective thoughts and prayers of our neighborhoods, county, state and nation have been with the Virginia Tech community.

“Today, Governor O’Malley has asked that governments, communities, schools, businesses and individuals throughout Maryland join Virginians in honoring the victims who lost their lives by ringing bells at noon on Friday, April 20.

“In a show of sympathy and support for all those involved in and affected by the tragedy,
I ask Montgomery County residents, employees, businesses, faith-based organizations, schools and community groups to ring bells and/or observe a moment of silence at noon on Friday, April 20.

“A public show of support can go a long way in letting the Virginia Tech community know that they do not grieve alone and that each of the lives lost had value.”
