Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett paid a visit this evening to residents of the Charter House Apartments in Silver Spring who were displaced from their homes November 30 after the high-rise building’s basement flooded and the building was evacuated. Leggett shared dinner with more than 50 residents who are currently staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Silver Spring. “From the start, we have worked with Homes for America to get residents back in their homes as quickly as possible,” said Leggett, “and while they are displaced, several County agencies continue working to ensure that their needs for meals, shelter and other necessities are taken care of.”
Homes for America, the owner of Charter House, provided hotel rooms for a week, has provided residents rent rebates for December and January and given each resident $1,200 to help cover expenses. The County will pay hotel costs beyond the December and January rebates.
