Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Rockville as a Hit and Run Updated Information Related Reference: 2012 Montgomery County Traffic Fatalities Map Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian collision that occurred in Rockville earlier this morning. At 3:24 a.m. today, 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the call for a report of a pedestrian struck on Norbeck Road near Westbury Road. A passing motorist, who found the subject, called for assistance, attempted to render aid, and remained on the scene. Officers arriving to the scene found a deceased 24-year-old male in the eastbound lanes of Norbeck Road, east of Westbury Road. He was wearing a black coat and dark blue jeans. The identity of the pedestrian will be released after family has been notified. The circumstances surrounding this fatal hit-and-run collision remain under investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who traveled along Norbeck Road between Bel Pre Road and Muncaster Mill Road at approximately 3:00 a.m. today to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Update Update Update Update Pedestrian Identified in Rockville Fatal Hit and Run Police Ask Witnesses to Come Forward Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian collision that occurred in Rockville earlier this morning. Detectives are identifying the pedestrian as 24-year-old Alonso Rodriguez of the 7400 block of Westlake Terrace in Bethesda. Rodriguez was found deceased on the scene when emergency units arrived. At 3:24 a.m. today, 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for a report of a pedestrian struck on Norbeck Road near Westbury Road. A passing motorist, who found Rodriguez, called for assistance, attempted to render aid, and remained on the scene until public safety personnel arrived. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rodriguez and two friends had been socializing late on Friday night into the morning hours today. At approximately 2:20 a.m., the vehicle Rodriguez was riding in stopped on Norbeck Road near Westbury Road and Rodriguez got out. The other two occupants, a male driver and female passenger, continued east on Norbeck Road. Police now believe that Rodriguez was struck by a vehicle on Norbeck Road between approximately 2:20 a.m. and 3:24 a.m., when the call was received. The circumstances surrounding this fatal hit-and-run collision remain under investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who traveled along Norbeck Road between Bel Pre Road and Muncaster Mill Road between 2:20 a.m. and 3:25 a.m. today to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous. |
