Storm Assessment: Irene took a limited toll on local transportation system; crews worked hard to minimize disruptions Hurricane Irene did not wreck havoc on Montgomery County as it did in many other parts of the U.S., but it still required significant MCDOT resources to ensure the county’s transportation system weathered the storm. What damage we did sustain was promptly repaired. The following is a summary of transportation-related impacts. Highway Services: * Crews and 25 tree contractors were mobilized Saturday evening and remained on duty throughout the storm until Monday. * Total Service Requests received (through MC311 or other sources): 595 209 of these were related to downed trees or power lines Only 9 remain outstanding due to power company issues * Total roads closed due to blockages or high water: 30 Only 1 road remains closed due to power company work (as of August 31, 11:53 am) |
