9/11 REMEMBRANCES ARE SET We are pleased to announce the following observances have been scheduled to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 in and around our Olney community: The Greater Olney Interfaith Ministerium (GOIM) has announced the following memorial service: A commemoration will be held on Sunday, 9/11, from 12:30PM to 1:15PM at the Muslim Community Center, 15200 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20905. This service will include welcoming remarks from either Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett or Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler. Please note, at this writing we are waiting from confirmation from one of these officials. This service will also include readings and prayers from the different faith communities of GOIM, a blessing/prayer for our first responders, as well as a moment of silence at 1:00PM to coincide with the U. S. Senate's call for a nationwide moment of silence at that time. The Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department will also be holding its annual 9/11 Candlelight Vigil at the intersection of Georgia Avenue (MD Route 97) and Route 108 at 7:30PM on this same evening.
