Single Vehicle Collision Results in Two Deaths Updated Information Related Reference: 2011 Montgomery County Traffic Fatalities Map Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred early this morning in the 15700 block of Holly Grove Road in the Cloverly area of Silver Spring. At approximately 12:22 a.m., officers from the 4th District and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for the report of an auto fire on Holly Grove Road. Units first on the scene reported that the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Preliminary investigation revealed that a silver, 2002, Subaru was traveling north on Holly Grove Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Subaru left the right side of the roadway, began to rotate counterclockwise, and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. At a point during this sequence, the vehicle caught fire. The driver and the front seat occupant were found deceased within the vehicle. The victims will be transported to Baltimore to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The identities of the victims will be released when the autopsy has been completed. Investigators have spoken with family members of the registered owner of the vehicle but have limited information on the identity of the passenger. Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to the possible identity of the passenger or about this collision generally to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Update Update Update Update Victims Identified in Fatal Collision Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred on August 13 in the 15700 block of Holly Grove Road in the Cloverly area of Silver Spring. It was on August 13 at approximately 12:22 a.m. that officers from the 4th District and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for the report of an auto fire on Holly Grove Road. The driver has been identified as Daniel John Baker, age 27, of the 13000 block of Cedar Creek Lane in Silver Spring. The passenger has been identified as Richard Franklin Scotton II, age 26, of the 12000 block of Theresa Drive in Silver Spring. The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
