Olney Chamber Celebration of Excellence The Olney Chamber of Commerce Celebration of Excellence was indeed that! Those in attendance honored the Olney Chamber Scholarship Recipients, Natalie Duncan, Brandon Osborne,Michael Leonard, and Sarah Petrocci. Shannon Gorman of Gorman's Garments & Gear was then honored by Chamber President Pamela Spears with the Clyde Undglesbee President's Award. Pam thanked Shannon for her continued involvement in the Chamber. The Partners in Business award was presented to Longwood Community Center for their support of the Chamber's two largest community events, National Night Out and Community Night. Longwood Director Sophie Randolph accepted the award on behalf of the center. Elisabeth Deal with the Olney Boys Community Sports Association was then honored as business person of the year. Elisabeth has served on the Chamber board as an a Director, VP, and Secretary. She helped implement a "walk about" to visit with Chamber members and non-members to talk about the role of the Chamber and the benefits of the Chamber. Elisabeth also put together surveys to poll Chamber members about benefits, programs, and membership. Harvey Metro of Metro Metro and Associates also helped honor Elisabeth and spoke about her impact regarding OBGC. Anne Kaiser, District 14 Delegate was the guest speaker. Her messages was about how important it is to be involved in your community. It takes everyone to make the greater Olney area the wonderful place it is to work and live. She then installed the 2011-2012 Board of Directors. Board Members this year include: Pamela Spears, President; Joe Buffington, VP; Shannon Gorman, Secretary; Delana Coyle, Treasurer; Richard Beinvenue, Brenda Egeland, Ellen Coleman, Shan Holt, Suzanne Simpson, Paula Kahla, Richie Vicente, and Trevor Waddington, all Members at Large. The Chamber would like to thank everyone who make the Celebration of Excellence such a wonderful event. Thank you to the Inn at Brookeville Farms for their hospitality and delicious meal. Thank you to Quinter Design for creating the award certificates and acting as Chamber photographer for the event. Thank you to Anne Kaiser for her inspiring works. Last but not least, thank you to everyone who came out to support and honor our Award Recipients. Announcements: Food for a Cause: Café Rio will be offering free Burritos and salads for the entire day of June 22nd. We will be accepting donations for “The Hope for the Warriors”. Hospice Caring, Inc. is having a fundraiser on Monday, July 11, featuring Elvis Tribute Artists Art Kistler and Steve & Tommy Marcio. These artists have received national recognition and awards for their performances. Art is a professionally trained vocalist, experienced and accomplished entertainer and recording artist, and has performed in numerous international Elvis Impersonator events. He has won eight talent competitions as "Elvis". Steve and Tommy Marcio perform as the younger and older Elvis. Both Steve and Tommy perform for "Cruising with the King" on Royal Caribbean cruise lines. This entertaining evening will be held at the Washington Rockville Elks Lodge, 5 Taft Court, Rockville. Doors open at 5:30, with light dinner fare and drinks available for purchase. The performance begins at 7:00p.m. VIP/front row tickets are $50; $35 for all other seats.
