Concern for Two Missing Olney Teenagers


Updated Information

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division are asking the public for help to locate two missing Olney teenagers.

Nicholas (Cole) Balderson, age 17, of the 2300 block of Rosebranch Court in Brookeville (map location 1), was last seen at his residence during the morning of Wednesday, January 12. He is described as a white male, 5’10” tall, weighing 140 pounds, with green eyes, and shoulder-length brown hair. A clothing description is not available. He is believed to be driving a black 1989 Jeep Wrangler with Maryland tags 967 2L6.

Rachel Elizabeth Reilly, age 16, of the 18200 block of Wickham Road in Olney (map location 2), was last seen in the company of Balderson during the afternoon of January 12. She is described as a white female, 5’5” tall, weighing 125 pounds, with hazel eyes, and long brown hair. Her clothing description is also unknown.

Police and their families are concerned for their welfare due to their ages.

Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Cole Balderson or Rachel Reilly is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division at 240-773-5400 or the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.

Vehicle of Missing Olney Teens Located

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division continue to investigate the whereabouts of two missing Olney teenagers. Today, detectives learned from Virginia State Police that the vehicle driven by the male teen, a black 1989 Jeep Wrangler with Maryland tags 967 2L6, was found abandoned at Rest Area 231 along southbound Route 81, approximately 100 miles north of Roanoke, in Augusta County, Virginia. Detectives do not know what means of transportation the teens may now be using.

Rachel Reilly, Missing Olney Teen, Located

Updated Information

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division and investigators from the Maryland State Police Child Recovery Unit have been investigating the disappearance of Nicholas (Cole) Balderson, age 17, and Rachel Reilly, age 16, who have been missing since January 12.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the missing teens may be in the San Antonio, Texas area and began coordinating with the San Antonio Police Department. Tonight, detectives were contacted by investigators from the San Antonio Police Department who located and took Rachel Reilly into custody at approximately 8:15 p.m. E.S.T.

Detectives from the San Antonio Police received information that the two teens may be staying at a homeless camp near a San Antonio truck stop. The investigators proceeded to the T and A Travel Center of America, located at 1112 Ackerman Road in San Antonio where they located a homeless camp to the rear of the truck stop. As they approached the encampment, two subjects matching the teens’ descriptions fled on foot. Police were able to stop and detain the female and identified her as Rachel Reilly. The male subject, who is believed to be Nicholas (Cole) Balderson, was not apprehended.

Rachel Reilly was taken into custody by the San Antonio Police and is waiting to be reunited with family. She appears to be uninjured and in good health. Nicholas (Cole) Balderson is still missing and it is believed that he remains in the San Antonio area.

It was on January 18 that Montgomery County Police reported that Nicholas (Cole) Balderson and Rachel Reilly were last seen in the Olney area on Wednesday, January 12. On January 21, Virginia State Police located the vehicle being operated by the teens, a black 1989 Jeep Wrangler with Maryland tags 967 2L6, at Rest Area 231 along southbound Route 81, approximately 100 miles north of Roanoke, in Augusta County, Virginia. The vehicle had been abandoned there.

Second Missing Olney Teen Located

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division and have been investigating the disappearance of 17-year-old Cole Balderson.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. E.S.T. this evening, Cole Balderson was located near the homeless camp behind the T and A Travel Center of America in San Antonio, Texas by his father and reunited with his family. He appears to be in good condition and will be flying back to Maryland tomorrow.

Cole Balderson and Rachel Reilly were last seen in Olney on Wednesday, January 12. On January 21, Virginia State Police located their abandoned vehicle; a black 1989 Jeep Wrangler with Maryland tags 967 2L6, at Rest Area 231 on Interstate 81, approximately 100 miles north of Roanoke in Augusta County, Virginia.

Rachel Reilly was located near the T and A Travel Center of America in San Antonio on January 27 by officers from the San Antonio Police Department. She was subsequently reunited with her family and returned home to Maryland.

The Montgomery County Police and Cole’s family would like to thank the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Maryland State Police, the Virginia State Police, the San Antonio Police Department, America’s Most Wanted, the local and national media, and the community for their assistance in this investigation.
