1 BLACK
Incident 1 - January 14, 2011
At approximately 7:52 a.m., Gaithersburg and 6th District officers responded to the MARC train station, located at 5 South Summit Avenue, for the report of a pedestrian struck by a train.
The preliminary investigation determined that the 81-year-old male victim was attempting to cross the tracks in front of the train. The victim was unable to completely cross the tracks, was struck by an inbound MARC commuter train, and subsequently died. This investigation is being handled as a pedestrian fatality and the victim’s identity will be made available once next-of-kin notification has been completed.

Incident 2 - March 11, 2011
At 5:37 p.m. on Cog Wheel Way in Germantown the preliminary investigation revealed that Gloria Maria Vergara Mansilla, 48 years old, of Cog Wheel Way, was driving away from her residence on her driveway in a white 2009 Mercedes ML 350 (SUV). The driveway has an inclined grade as it gets closer to the street. Mrs. Mansilla, accompanied by her teenage son, stopped the Mercedes on the incline portion of the driveway, exited the vehicle, and proceeded to the rear cargo area of the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that when Mrs. Mansilla left the SUV, the vehicle remained in Drive. After Mrs. Mansilla opened the rear cargo door, the vehicle began to travel backward, striking and collecting Mrs. Mansilla underneath the SUV. The vehicle continued down the grade until it came to rest against a fence.

Incident 3 - April 14, 2011
At approximately 2:30 p.m., 2nd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the report of a pedestrian/motor vehicle collision in the 5000 block of River Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 76 year-old female, who was walking outside the crosswalk, was struck by a yellow 1979 Chevrolet Caprice Classic that was traveling eastbound on River Road. The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained on the scene.
The pedestrian has been identified as Nancy Jane Laulis, of the 700 block of Long Street in Bridgeport, West Virginia. Ms. Laulis succumbed to her injuries at Suburban Hospital.

Incident 4 - May 24, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police-Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Veirs Mill Road near Centerhill Street on May 23 at 9:42 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a man in his mid-forties and a woman in her mid-thirties were exiting a bus near the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Centerhill Street. The pedestrians entered the roadway and were struck by a white BMW traveling eastbound. The driver of the vehicle initially stopped, then fled the scene. Both pedestrians were taken to a Suburban Hospital, where the female was pronounced deceased. The male is in critical condition.

Incident 5 - June 3, 2011
On Thursday, June 2, 2011, at approximately 10:38 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Regina Drive for a personal injury collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 24-year-old female was crossing the northbound lanes of Georgia Avenue near the intersection of Regina Drive. While in the roadway, the pedestrian was struck by a silver 2007 Volkswagen Eos that was traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed through an adjacent wooden fence. The vehicle came to rest in the backyard of a nearby residence.
The victim in this collision has been identified as Etsegenet Abebe Hurissa, age 24, of the 13200 block of Holdridge Rd in Silver Spring. Hurissa succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the collision.

Incident 6 - July 11, 2011
At approximately 12:50 a.m., 5th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Route 118 and Aircraft Drive for a personal injury collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a young adult male was crossing the southbound lanes of Route 118 near the intersection of Aircraft Drive. While in the roadway, the pedestrian was struck by a silver 2000 Lexus ES 300 that was traveling southbound on Route 118. The driver of the Lexus remained on the scene.

Incident 7 - September 10, 2011
At approximately 7:25 a.m., 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of southbound Georgia Avenue and Windham Lane for a personal injury collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 52-year-old male was struck as he stepped off the curb into the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue on the south side of the Windham Lane intersection. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene. She is identified as Armida Herrara of the 4500 block of Gridley Road in Silver Spring. She was driving a green, 2000 Honda Accord with Maryland tags. She was not injured.

Incident 8 - October 10, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police-Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a pedestrian collision that occurred on Hungerford Drive near Frederick Avenue on October 9 at 6:53 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a man was crossing Hungerford Drive, mid-block, south of Frederick Avenue, from the center median toward the northbound shoulder. The pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by a motorcycle traveling northbound. Both the pedestrian and the motorcycle operator were taken to a local hospital.

Incident 9 - December 2, 2011
On Thursday, December 1, at approximately 6:38 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Flower Avenue and Piney Branch Road for a personal injury collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 57-year-old male was crossing the southbound lanes of Flower Avenue near the intersection of Piney Branch Road. While in the roadway, the pedestrian was struck by a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck that was traveling southbound on Flower Avenue.

Incident 10 - December 7, 2011
At approximately 5:57 p.m., 1st District officers and Rockville City Police officers responded to a personal injury collision involving a pedestrian and a Ride On at the intersection of Halpine Road and Rockville Pike (Route 355).
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Ride On bus was in the westbound lanes of Halpine Road attempting to turn right onto northbound Rockville Pike. For reasons still under investigation, the bus struck a female pedestrian who was crossing west in the northbound lanes of Rockville Pike. She was transported to Suburban Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Incident 11 - December 9, 2011
At approximately 6:50 a.m., 2nd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Newport Mill Road and Lawrence Avenue for a personal injury collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 93-year-old male was crossing the southbound lanes of Newport Mill Road near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue from west to east. While in the roadway, the pedestrian was struck by a gold 2005 Toyota Corolla that was traveling southbound on Newport Mill Road. The victim was then struck by two additional vehicles, a grey 2012 Ford Escape and a grey 2000 Honda Civic, which were traveling northbound.

Incident 12 - December 17, 2011
At approximately 4:57 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the report of a vehicle collision in the area of Veirs Mill Road and Huggins Drive.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009, Mercury Milan was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the eastbound side of the roadway in the area of Centerhill Street, traveled onto the grass/sidewalk, and collided with a pedestrian who was at the bus stop. After striking the pedestrian, the Mercury continued to travel and collided with a 2010, Toyota Tacoma in the driveway of the residence at 11810 Huggins Drive. The Mercury then impacted a tree before finally coming to rest.

Incident 13 - December 18, 2011
At approximately 10:23 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck in the area of Veirs Mill Road and Gridley Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Veirs Mill Road mid-block from the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center when he was struck in the westbound lanes by a dark green, 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The pedestrian came to rest in the second lane from the median area and was struck again by a dark colored SUV, which did not stop. The pedestrian was transported to Holy Cross Hospital and then to the Washington Hospital Center. He succumbed to his injuries at 12:48 a.m.
Police have not been able to confirm the identity of the pedestrian. He is described as a Hispanic male, possibly between 35 and 50 years of age, 5’4” tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has black hair and a moustache. At the time of the collision he was wearing a black jacket, a blue checkered button-down shirt, blue jeans, and black slip on shoes.
