Lyme Park, written by playwright, actress, and director Nandita Shenoy, is an "Austonian Romance of an Indian Nature" inspired by Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. This modern-day retelling follows the adventures of Kavita and her friend Violet on a tour of the English countryside as Kavita tries to find her own Mr. Darcy. Kavita is faced with the choice between living in a Pride & Prejudice fantasy world of her own making or the not-so-tidy world of reality as she grapples with questions of identity and how to know true love. theHegira, a DC-based theatre company, showcases works that link women of color. In a world where we are often asked to choose or define things between this Or that (body or mind, black or white, cooperation or competition, self or other, liberal or conservative); Clancy's choreography probes the nature of polar dichotomies in an attempt to seek a reconciliatory AND. In Commedia tradition, a group of strolling players set up their stage to give a performance. Using authentic staging and stock characters of Commedia - the miserly Pantalone, the bragging Captain, the romantic Lovers, the trickster Arlinquin, plus an endearing Lion - Aesop's fable becomes a colorful theatrical experience. The Sarah Play provides metro area high school students the resources and guidance to mount a production at Round House under the mentorship of professional theatre artists and practitioners. Round House Theatre's Heyday Players present Masterpiece Seniors Apr. 11 at 7pm - Free The Heyday Players' Masterpiece Seniors is a light-hearted collection of original short plays by local playwrights, inspired by Great Works of Literature, with a "senior" twist. Whatever happened to the March sisters from Little Women? How would a senior Sherlock Holmes go about solving mysteries? The Heyday Players, RHT's performance troupe of senior actors, enrich the lives of senior citizens by channeling their tremendous spirit, talent, and life experience into theatrical performance and community engagement. Forum Theatre Forum Theatre is theatre company-in-residence at Round House Silver Spring. Forum Theatre presents One Flea Spare By Naomi Wallace Directed by Alexander Strain Feb. 17 - Mar. 12 Pay-What-You-Can previews Feb. 17 & 18 at 8pm Tickets available one hour before the show at the box office in Silver Spring. As the streets of 1665 London pile up with bodies, a rough-spoken sailor and a precocious young girl steal indoors, only to discover themselves quarantined for a month with the wealthy master and mistress of the house. One Flea Spare is a searing, bawdy Black Plague comedy that explores the limits of compassion in a tale about sex, class, and disease. Winner of the 1997 Obie Award for Best Play. Cash/exact change only. Two tickets per person. A fantastical road trip through the American landscape, written as Robert Rauschenberg might conceive it had he been a playwright instead of a painter. Inspired by one of America's greatest visual artists, Charles Mee creates a Rauschenberg-esque collage of images, music, and dance that paints a distinct history of a nation and culture as well as a glimpse into its future. Lumina Studio Theatre presents The Canterbury Tales Jan. 22 - 30 Lumina Studio Theatre presents Hydriotaphia By Tony Kushner Apr. 9 & 10 ArtStream's Silver Spring Inclusive Company Apr. 29 - May 7 Lumina Studio Theatre presents Henry VI, Parts 1, 2, 3 May 14 - 22 "Days Off" at RHT's Education Center Our Education Center is open on days when Montgomery County Public Schools are closed: Mon., Jan. 24 Thu., Mar. 31 During these "Days Off" from school, for a fee of $85 per day, parents can drop their grade K - 7 students off at our Ed Center, where they'll participate in theatre and arts activities. Students can be dropped off between 8 and 9am and the program day ends at 5pm. Students must be registered by the Friday before the program date.
