Homicide 1 - January 1, 2011
At approximately 10:29 this morning, Montgomery County police received the report of an assault that had just occurred at Suburban Hospital, located at 8600 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, Maryland. Second District officers who were in the area arrived at the scene at approximately 10:30. Hospital staff directed them to an unresponsive male suffering from trauma to his upper body. Despite on-scene rescue efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Through the course of the investigation it was learned that the victim, a 40-year-old male, was an employee of the hospital. The assault occurred in a non-patient care area of the hospital; separated from visitors, staff, and patients. Police placed the hospital in a lock-down status as a thorough search of the facility and grounds was conducted. During that time, individuals requiring treatment were diverted to other area hospitals. After the search was completed, the hospital was cleared to reopen for full service at approximately 2:24 p.m.

Homicide 2 - February 9, 2011
On February 8, 2011, at approximately 11:58 p.m., the Montgomery County Police Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a 911 call from a subject at payphone located at 8875 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. This address is the Piney Branch Service Center. The male caller, who did not identify himself, advised that he had killed his wife approximately two hours before making the call. He also stated that his wife was in their residence, which was nearby.
Third District officers arrived at the service center and identified Bernardo Paz Flores-Olvera, 32 years old, as the caller. He stated that he had killed his wife. Flores-Olvera also stated that he lived in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace in an apartment with his wife and children.

Homicide 3 - February 16, 2011
At approximately 11:02 p.m. on February 15, 6th District officers responded to a call for a domestic violence incident in an apartment in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle. Responding officers found an adult male who was pronounced dead at the scene. They also found an injured adult female. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The incident is believed to be domestic.

Homicide 4 - March 12, 2011
At approximately 8:00 a.m., a female employee arrived at the “lululemon athletica” clothing store located at 4856 Bethesda Avenue. She found the front door unlocked and when she stepped inside could tell that items in the store had been disturbed. She also heard some faint noise coming from the back of the store. Realizing that something was wrong, she left the store to seek help and call police.
At approximately 8:12 a.m., 2nd District police responded to the store for the report of a burglary. Officers found a 30-year-old female store employee dead inside at the back of the store. They also found another store employee, a 27-year-old female, bound and injured, but still alive. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Homicide 5 - March 21, 2011
At approximately 4:19 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the report of possible gunshots heard in the 3400 block of N. High Street. Officers found an adult male unresponsive outside a residence and near the roadway in the above block address. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim has been identified as Punyasara W Palkumbure Gedara, 41 years old, from the 3400 block of Bantry Way in Olney.
Through the preliminary investigation it was learned that Mr. Gedara was employed in the area and was walking home when the incident occurred. Residents in the area heard the sound of gunshots. At the same time an older-model beige Toyota Camry was seen on N. High Street traveling toward Georgia Avenue. At this stage of the investigation detectives do not have any suspect(s) description to release.

Homicide 6 - March 22, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section continue to investigate the death that was discovered On Friday, March 18 in Olney. They are investigating it as a homicide. The results from an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore determined the cause of death to be gunshot wound and the manner of death homicide.
It was approximately 5:06 p.m. on March 18, that 4th District officers responded to the 19500 block of Olney Mill Road for the report of a suspicious situation. Upon arrival they found Nazir Ahmed, age 81, unresponsive inside his residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives found evidence at the scene that led them to believe that foul play was involved but they wanted to obtain more information about what might have occurred and obtain autopsy results before confirming the death as a homicide.

Homicide 7 - May 4, 2011
On May 3, at approximately 11:12 p.m., 5th District officers responded to an address on Country Ridge Drive for a report of a stabbing. Upon arriving, officers discovered a 22-year-old male suffering from a stab wound to the torso. The victim was transported to Suburban Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim was later identified as Kevin Alfred Mbayo, 22 years old, of the 13000 block of Country Ridge Drive.

Homicide 8 - May 26, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of an adult male who was found suffering from a stab wound inside a house in the 14100 block of Travilah Road.
On May 25, at approximately 9:32 p.m., 1st District officers and Fire/Rescue responded to the address on Travilah Road for a report of a stabbing. Upon arriving, officers discovered an unknown male inside the residence suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. The male succumbed to his injuries shortly after officers arrived.

Homicide 9 - June 1, 2011
At approximately 7:34 p.m. Gaithersburg City Police and Montgomery County Police responded to the 700 block of Raven Avenue for a pediatric injury. Officers found a female juvenile deceased inside the home she shared with family members.

Homicide 10 - July 3, 2011
On July 2, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Police 6th District, Gaithersburg police officers, and Montgomery County Fire/Rescue responded to a residence in the 100 block of Steven Court in Gaithersburg for the report of an assault. Upon arriving, officers discovered a 28-year-old male lying unresponsive on the ground outside of the home. The victim had sustained multiple head injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Justin Eugene Carter, 28 years old, of the 100 block of Steven Court in Gaithersburg.

Homicide 11 - August 3, 2011
On August 2, at approximately 2:30 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to an address on Simms Court at the request of the woman’s co-worker who had been unable to contact her for several days. Upon arriving, officers made entry into the residence and discovered the boy deceased in his bedroom. Officers discovered the woman deceased in her bedroom. Both victims had evidence of trauma to their bodies.
The woman is identified as Margaret Ferne Jensvold, 54 years, of the unit block of Simms Court in Kensington. The boy is identified as Benjamin H. Barnhard, 13 years, also of the unit block of Simms Court in Kensington.

Homicide 12 - October 8, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the deaths of an adult man and woman who were found deceased inside the male’s residence in the 5400 block of Westbard Avenue in Bethesda. At this time, detectives are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder/suicide.
Today at 11:11 a.m., 2nd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to an apartment on Westbard Avenue. A family member, who had not been able to contact the man over the last two days, had entered the apartment and found the man and woman unresponsive and called Fire/Rescue. Upon arriving, rescue units found the man and woman deceased in a bedroom. Both victims had evidence of trauma to their bodies.

Homicide 13 - October 13, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a 51-year-old mother and the disappearance of her 11-year-old son. At this time, detectives are investigating the death as an apparent homicide. Police are identifying the deceased victim as 51-year-old Jane McQuain of the 13100 block of Briarcliff Terrace in Germantown. Her son, William McQuain, is missing.
On October 12, at approximately 8:25 p.m., 6th District detectives responded to the Briarcliff Terrace apartment as part of a missing person investigation. Earlier on October 12, a friend of Jane McQuain had reported to police that he had not been able to contact her and was concerned for her welfare. Upon arriving, officers made entry into the apartment and discovered Jane McQuain deceased in her bedroom. There was evidence of trauma to her body.
The whereabouts of Jane McQuain’s son, 11-year-old William McQuain, are unknown at this time

Homicide 14 - October 24, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the deaths of an 80-year-old male and 74-year-old female that occurred at The Village at Rockville, a senior living community in Rockville. At this time, detectives are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder/suicide.
Today at approximately 10:00 a.m., 1st District officers and Rockville City officers responded to The Village at Rockville located at 9701 Veirs Drive in Rockville for a reported shooting. Police arrived to the location and found a man and woman deceased in a patient room.

Homicide 15 - December 27, 2011
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a 24-year-old male who was found this morning in the 11400 block of Stewart Lane.
Today, at 6:39 a.m., police received complaints for the sound of gunshots. At 6:48 a.m., 3rd District officers responded for a reported pedestrian struck in the 11400 block of Stewart Lane. Upon arriving, officers discovered a 24-year-old male suffering from trauma to the upper torso. There was evidence of a firearm being discharged.
