The night of Tuesday, December 28, members of the Montgomery County Police Community Action Team (PCAT) arrested two individuals for possession of heroin after a traffic stop in Silver Spring. PCAT units are assigned to areas with the potential of higher crime. Not only do they provide a highly visible police presence in specifically targeted areas, but they also attend community meetings and form relationships with residents to address community issues.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on December 28, PCAT officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Thayer Avenue after confirming that it was traveling 40 miles per hour in a 30 mile-per-hour zone. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and a male and female passenger. All three occupants exhibited signs of nervousness but consented to a search of the vehicle, and personal searches. The male front-seat passenger, Faisal Abdullah, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and four bags partially full of heroin. The female back-seat passenger, Rebecca Amick, was found to be in possession of nine full bags of heroin. Each of the full bags contained one tenth of a gram with an approximate street value of $10.00 a bag. During the arrest process, it was learned that Rebecca Amick is a special education teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools at Woodlin Elementary School in Silver Spring.
Faisal Abdullah, age 25, from the 12700 block of Greenbrier Road, Potomac, was charged with possession of heroin. Abdullah was also wanted for two counts of prescription fraud. He was released from the Montgomery County Detention Center on an unsecured $15,000 bond. Rebecca Amick, age 25, from the 14400 block of Lake Winds Way, North Potomac, was also charged with possession of heroin and was released on personal recognizance. The male driver was charged with speeding.
