Bach Coffee Cantata
Menotti Amahl and the Night Visitors
How do you spend the Holidays? For some people, the holidays are a time to be with family and enjoy the little miracles of the season. For others, the holidays are purely a matter of survival. At Bel Cantanti, we offer something for both types. For those of you looking for an extra boost to carry you through, come get a jolt off of Bach's delightful ode to the bean: The Coffee Cantata. A lovely maiden Lieschen, who is addicted to coffee is treathened by her father: no husband untill she gives up her three-cups-a-day. What does the girl do to trick her frustrated papa?...
Then, once you're sufficiently caffeinated, you'll want to fix your attention on Menotti's touching story of a young shepherd boy who meets the Magi and the mother who would do anything to provide a better life for her son: Amahl and the Night Visitors. The opera is reprised by our company in celebration of the Menotti's year, a centenial of composer's birth. (1911-2011). Both productions are fully staged, in costume.
Come spend some time with your Bel Cantanti Opera family this season. Hear some of your favorite singers from seasons past, and get to know some of the newest members of your opera family, too!
