Public Comment Period for Fiscal Year
2011 Budget Open Through May 21
ROCKVILLE, Md., May 4, 2010 -The City of Rockville invites residents to comment on the Fiscal Year 2011 budget. The Mayor and Council are scheduled to hold a work session and a public hearing at 7 p.m. tonight, May 4, at City Hall.
Residents can comment on the budget during citizens forum at any regularly scheduled meeting. The public comment period on the budget is open until 5 p.m. Friday, May 21. Residents may also e-mail comments to
mayorcouncil@rockvillemd.gov or use the eComment tool featured at
www.rockvillemd.gov to comment on specific Mayor and Council budget agenda items.
Rockville City Manager Scott Ullery presented his proposed FY11 budget to the Mayor and Council on March 22. The total operating budget of $102.3 million is an increase of 0.4 percent from fiscal 2010. The General Fund, which supports the largest portion of the operating budget and covers the cost of everyday government activities such as public safety, parks and streets, is $62.5 million, which is an increase of 0.7 percent.
The total Capital Improvements Program (CIP) is $65.4 million and supports 58 projects.
Fiscal Year 2011 begins July 1, 2010. The proposed budget is available online at
www.rockvillemd.gov/budget, as well as at City Hall and Rockville and Twinbrook libraries. The expected adoption date for the FY11 budget is May 24.
The Mayor and Council will hold final discussion and instruction on the budget Monday, May 10.
