January 7 &14, 2010 - Free Legal Advice Clinics
The Montgomery County Bar Foundation Pro Bono Program, in partnership with Eastern Montgomery Regional Services, provides free Legal Advice Consultations for low income residents on the first and second Thursdays’ of each month from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. The upcoming dates for the legal clinics are January 7th and 14th. Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will sponsor five budget forums in January to seek input from residents about the challenges facing the County in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2011 Operating Budget. These sessions are hosted by the Regional Services Center Directors and the Regional Services CenterCitizen Advisory Boards and are open to residents from any part of the county. Staff from the County's Office of Management and Budget will make presentations and be available to answer questions. January 11, 2010 until January 15, 2010 - Join in Manna's Food Drive
Many of our neighbors rely on a monthly drop-off from Manna delivered at the EMRSC, and requests for Manna’s food bank has increased substantially in recent months. So the EMRSC and the Office of Community Affairs is seeking our community’s help to increase food staples through holding a food drive starting January 11, 2010 until January 15, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Manna’s most needed foods include: Peanut Butter in 18 oz jars, Tuna Fish (Canned), Canned Fruit, Baby Formula/Baby Food, Shelf-Stable Milk in Individual Boxes, Cereal and Oatmeal, Rice, Canned and Dried Beans, Tomato Sauce, Pasta, Macaroni & Cheese and Canned Soup. Manna’s Smart Sacks backpack program, with food sent home to children, needs the above foods in small servings as well as: Small Fruit Cans/Cups, 100% Juice Boxes, Crackers; Pudding; Healthy Cereal Bars; Individual Raisins/Dried Fruit; Pouches of “instant” Potatoes or Rice and, other nutritious kid-friendly food. Department of Police - Third Quarter Montgomery County Crime Statistics Continue to Show Decrease in Crime - Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger today announced a 4.1% decrease in total crime within Montgomery County for the third quarter of 2009. Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) statistics for the third quarter of 2009 as compared to the same period in 2008 show: Part I Crime decreased 4.5%; Part II Crime decreased 3.9% ; Overall, total Crime (Part I and Part II totals) decreased 4.1% Click here

County to Hold H1N1 Clinics for All County Residents; FREE Doses Available by Appointment for Clinics in January 2010
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will offer FREE H1N1 clinics for all Montgomery County residents at locations throughout the county during January 2010. Both nasal spray and injectable vaccine will be available, and vaccinations are free.
Make appointments on Mondays—January 4, 11 and 25—from 1 to 4 p.m. by calling the flu appointment line at 240-777-4040.

The Flu Information Line—240-777-4200—is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Montgomery County Council Seeks Applicants for the Position of Chairman of Montgomery County Planning Board -Deadline for Applications is 5 p.m., Monday, March 8. The Montgomery County Council is seeking applicants to fill a position on the Montgomery County Planning Board for the expiring term of Royce Hanson (Democrat). His term will expire on June 14, 2010. Dr. Hanson has indicated that he will not apply for reappointment. The Council expects to designate the appointee as chairman. In appointing a chairman for the board, the Council will establish the salary for the chairman within a range of $160,000 to $180,000. Applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, March 8.
