City of Gaithersburg Press Release
For Immediate Release December 9, 2009
Mayor, City Council Conduct City Manager Performance Review
Gaithersburg, MD. On December 7, 2009 the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council conducted a full performance review of City Manager Angel Jones. At Ms. Jones’ request, in recognition of the tight budget situation, the Mayor and Council agreed not to raise her salary. This decision was not tied to her performance.
The following is a statement from City Manager Jones regarding the review:
“I want to thank the Mayor and Council for creating an evaluation process that was rewarding, constructive and informative. I appreciated that they collected feedback from the top leadership of City staff, and also considered my interactions with stakeholders throughout the community in my first performance review covering my first year of employment with the City of Gaithersburg.
The evaluation process provided the opportunity for an open and frank discussion of tangible and measurable goals and priorities for the coming years. I look forward to working with the elected officials, our partners in the community and our very talented City staff to accomplish these important items that are in the best interest of Gaithersburg. Areas such as economic development, fiscal accountability, public/private partnerships, expanded communication capabilities, and technology enhancements are among the goals that will be addressed as we move forward into the FY11 budget cycle.
While there is always room for improvement, I am extremely proud of my accomplishments over the past year. Much progress has been made in not only how we conduct the business of the City, but how we communicate our efforts and how we strategize for the future. Needless to say, it has been a very challenging year as I have familiarized myself with the organization and the community amidst the anomaly of a severe economic downturn. With continued support at all levels I look forward to both the challenges and success that will no doubt be encountered in the years to come.”
