Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in the backyard of her home in the 3600 block of Castle Terrace in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring early this morning. The death is being investigated as a homicide. The victim has been tentatively identified as Rosa Lidia Vasquez, 35 years old. She had been reported as a missing person earlier this month.
Last night, detectives from the Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section and the 3rd District Investigative Section were at Vasquez’s residence continuing to investigate her disappearance. During a search of the backyard, detectives found what they believe to be the body of Vasquez. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an examination not only to confirm her identity but the cause and manner of death.
Vasquez was reported to police as a missing person on September 1, by her former husband, William Vasquez. At the time, William Vasquez stated that Rosa Vasquez had last been seen at 7:00 a.m. on August 31. Ivo Priamo Portillo-Guevara is a past acquaintance of a family member. During the course of investigation, Portillo-Guevara, 17 years old, of no fixed address, was developed as a suspect.
This morning at approximately 10:00 a.m., Portillo-Guevara was arrested without incident in the 200 block of W. Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg. Investigation revealed that Portillo-Guevara and Vasquez had an argument and Portillo-Guevara killed Vasquez in the residence. He later placed her body in a plastic storage container in the corner of the backyard.
Portillo-Guevara will be charged as an adult with first-degree murder. His bond information is not available at this time.
