Montgomery County Fire Fighters are Helping MDA "Fill the Boot" for Jerry's Kids! - Beginning today and running through Thursday and Friday September 3 & 4 Montgomery County Fire Fighters are helping MDA "Fill the Boot" for Jerry's Kids!  You will see many of our fire fighter’s at various intersections throughout the county, fire boot in hand, accepting donations for this very worthy cause.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary that the Montgomery County Fire Fighters have collected for, and supported, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Jerry’s Kids. Last year we collected over $206,000.00 and placed number 9 in the country for funds raised by fire fighters. Our goal this year is to collect $250,000.00.  Collection times will be between 8 am and 8 pm each of the three days.

Leadership for a Better World: Creating Social Value Through Innovation - The Center for Social Value Creation joins the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) in hosting a one-day forum on September 25 from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, “Leadership for a Better World: Creating Social Value through Innovation,” at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.  The forum will feature a series of high-profile thought leaders on the role of business in society and fostering social change through models of innovation. Academics, business leaders, nonprofit executives and policy makers are invited to attend and join in the discussion. Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Holds Annual "Rescue Day" Open House, October 3 - The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad will hold its annual open house, "Rescue Day 2009," on Saturday, October 3, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, rain or shine. Rescue Day 2009 is being held in conjunction with the Taste of Bethesda, the outdoor food festival held just two blocks away in Bethesda's restaurant district.

Rescue Day 2009 will feature free fire and rescue activities and displays for all ages, including tours of the station; fire and rescue trucks; live demonstrations of emergency medical, rescue, and firefighting equipment; a special visit by a helicopter; free children's firefighter hats; and a moonbounce. 2009 “Hip, Happy and Healthy” Essay Contest  - Welcome to the 2009 “Hip, Happy and Healthy” Essay Contest sponsored by The Washington Post and The Children’s Inn at NIH. The contest is open to all 7th graders (as of September 1, 2009) in the Washington region and is intended to promote healthy lifestyles. Seventh graders in any Washington D.C., Maryland, or Virginia public, private, charter or home school is eligible to submit an essay.

A total of four winners will be chosen; one Grand Prize Winner will receive a visit to his or her school by a Washington Redskin and a $500 cash prize. Winning essays may be published on The Washington Post’s community relations web page. Notice of New Electrical Application - On October 5, 2009 the Department of Permitting Services (DPS) will begin using a new electrical permit application form.  The form is available at the Information desk and on the DPS website.  The old application will not be accepted after November 2, 2009.  You may request a copy of the application by contacting Erik Flieger at 240-777-6354.  Copies are also available at the DPS offices.
