SECU Works With MSDE to
Donate Supplies To Deserving Maryland Schools

Montgomery County Elementary School Among the Recipients

LINTHICUM (August 27, 2009)—SECU, the State Employees Credit Union, has made the new school year a little more brighter by donating thousands of supplies to needy students throughout Maryland.

SECU President and CEO Rod Staatz today presented a shipment of supplies to Anne Arundel County Board of Education President and Brooklyn Park Elementary School alum Ned Carey, Superintendent of Schools Kevin M. Maxwell, and Brooklyn Park Elementary School Principal Don Leuschner. Other supplies will be delivered to eight additional schools throughout the State.

In Montgomery County supplies are being delivered to New Hampshire Estates Elementary in Takoma Park.

Working in partnership with SECU, the Maryland State Department of Education identified the schools throughout the state that would most benefit from the contributions. Executive Director for Partnerships and Development for MSDE, Darla Strouse participated in the giveaway event.

Since 2006, employees and members have donated over 11,000 school supplies for underprivileged students throughout Maryland.

“We appreciate the generosity of SECU employees in creating a program that benefits students and helps them get a good start in school,” said State Superintendent Nancy Grasmick.

“It is very important to us here at SECU that we demonstrate our civic responsibility through like-minded organizations that are committed to education, financial literacy and bettering the community,” said Staatz, who serves as CEO of Maryland’s largest credit union. “All schools are positive community structures, so helping some of our neediest schools become stronger, makes us all stronger.”

The current campaign, which ended on Tuesday, August 25, involved SECU’s 18 branches around the state.
