County’s Recycling Center Receives Excellence Award

Montgomery County’s Recycling Center has received the 2009 Recycling Systems Silver Excellence Award from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), in recognition of outstanding levels of performance in several areas.

SWANA’s Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities that promote socially, environmentally and economically sound management of solid waste. Award recipients demonstrate their commitment to environmental regulation compliance, program efficiency, safety and progress.

Recycling Center staff recently completed their third consecutive injury-free work year; added processing of other plastics, such as yogurt and cottage cheese containers, lids for these containers, plastic flower pots and large plastic pails; averaged approximately just six minutes per day of processing down-time; and, switched to a work week of four 10-hour days, while maintaining previous hourly production rates.
