Germantown Sector Plan Update

County Council work sessions begin on a plan submitted for approval by the Montgomery County Planning Board that will bring changes to downtown Germantown --- more jobs, building density and height, a larger street network, and pedestrian friendly features!  Now that a public hearing has been held, the Council’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee will meet on Monday, June 15 to begin discussing various aspects of the plan including policy issues regarding density, building heights, zoning, transportation and transit issues, and the staging of the development which is expected to take place over the next several decades.

At this time, the Committee is scheduled to discuss the plan on June 15, 22 and 29.  We suggest that you check the Committee’s agenda schedule at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council to confirm discussion dates and times.

I-270 / CCT Public Hearings on June 16 and 18!

County officials and community leaders are encouraging residents and businesses to testify at the State Highway Administration’s public hearings on the Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT) which will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at Gaithersburg Middle School in Gaithersburg, and on June 18 at Monocacy Middle School in Frederick.  Beginning at 5:00pm you will be able to review the maps and displays and speak with the project team as well as register to comment.  Public testimony will begin at 7:00pm.  The new transit system, CCT, will link communities and town centers from Shady Grove Metro and King Farm to Gaithersburg, Kentlands, Germantown and Clarksburg.  The project will create jobs, get cars off the road and help to energize the I-270 corridor in the Upcounty.

UCAB Finishes Year with Annual Report

and Community Reception

The Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board completed their work year 2008-2009 in a meeting with County Executive Ike Leggett and an appreciation reception for federal, state, county, and municipal officials and community leaders; both held at BlackRock Center for the Arts.  At the meeting, Board committee chairs summarized discussions and recommendations made during the year regarding a variety of issues affecting the Upcounty region.  Those recommendations can be found in the Board’s annual report Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board FY 09 Annual Report.  A reception followed where elected officials and UCAB members were introduced and community leaders, officials, and County staff had the opportunity to meet each other.  That evening, two retiring Board members, Ms. Tobi Printz-Platnick and Dr. Kevin Schwartz were each recognized for their dedication and leadership demonstrated during their two terms.  New members were introduced:  Mr. Nicholas Alexander (Gaithersburg), Ms. Natalia Farrar (Shady Grove), Mr. Cherian Eapen (Clarksburg), Mr. Andrew Einsmann (Germantown), and Mr. James King (Montgomery Village).  Members reappointed to serve another term were Mr. Heinz Bachmann (Dickerson), Mr. Joel Cockrell (Damascus), and Ms. Rebecca Walker (Germantown).  Details about the Board can also be found on the County’s website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/upcounty.
