Default Look What's Happening in East County!

East County Legislative Forum -  Tonight!

The East County Citizens Advisory Board (ECCAB) in conjunction with Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center is holding an East County Legislative forum on June 3 from 7:15 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. at the Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center. District 14 and District 20 State Senators and Delegates will speak on the most salient actions regarding legislations in Annapolis this year. A ten minute question and answer session will follow after the forum. The ECCAB meeting will convene after the forum. **FREE LEGAL ADVICE CLINIC** Tomorrow!

The Montgomery County Bar Foundation Pro Bono Program, in partnership with Eastern Montgomery Regional Services, provides free Legal Advice Consultations for low income residents on Thursday June 4, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.   A client intake must be completed before 6:00 pm.  For more information, call the Pro Bono Program Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (301) 424-7651 or (301) 424-7652 or (301) 424-7633.  Clinics are held at the Eastern Montgomery Regional Center, 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring.  For directions call 240-777-8400

 

Public Hearing -
A public hearing on the County Executive’s code enforcement legislation will be held on June 9, 2009 at 7:30 pm., at the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The legislation implements key recommendations of the County Executive Leggett’s Code Enforcement Work Group which conducted a year-long review of code enforcement. 

Specific issues include unkempt properties, solid waste, abandoned vehicles, overcrowded homes, large commercial and recreational vehicles parked on residential streets, and inconsistent provisions within the County Code.  The four bills under review can be found at

Capital Improvement Projects Forum 

At 7:00 p.m. on June 10, 2009, the East County Citizens Advisory Board will host the Capital Improvements Project Forum for the Eastern Montgomery Region. Various County agencies will be present to discuss projects on the County’s capital projects schedule. This is a good opportunity to get first hand knowledge about the status of long awaited projects like the White Oak Recreation Center, the Paint Branch High School renovation, the proposed new 3rd District Police Station, the proposed new Fire Station and the Loop Road in Burtonsville. This is also a terrific time for you to suggest or recommend new and innovative capital improvement projects for inclusion in future budget years. If you, your organization or your community has some thoughts about this matter please make every effort to come to this Forum and share those thoughts.

The AAHP S.M.I.L.E. (Start More Infants Living Equally-healthy) program will be offering FREE Childbirth Education and Breastfeeding Classes on June 15, 16, 22, 23 Learn what you need to know to have a healthy baby. Dinner will be provided.  Find out how to qualify for a FREE pack n' play crib, a FREE car seat or a FREE 1-year rental of Medela double breast electric pump.  No children will be allowed. MUST BE A >MONTGOMERY COUNTY RESIDENT. ID will be required.  Please bring a pillow and a mat for the class on the 22nd. Presentation on New 3rd District Police Station

On June 24th at 7:00 pm architects for the new 3rd District Police Station will present the final plans to the community before submitting plans to the Park and Planning Department for approval.  The new station is to be built on a 3 ˝ acre parcel in White Oak near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Route 29.  This is an opportunity for residents to provide feedback and ask questions.  Residents are encouraged to attend.
