Default Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre Serves Up Lively Musicals

Montgomery College Summer
Dinner Theatre Serves Up Lively Musicals

Students to Bring 'Cabaret,' 'All Shook Up' to Stage This Summer

This summer, Montgomery College will bring two acclaimed musicals to the stage—"Cabarett" and "All Shook Up"—for its Summer Dinner Theeatre performances, starting June 19. "Cabaret" performances will take place June 19-21 and 25-28. "All Shook Up" will run July 11-12, 17-19 and 24-26.

In the first production, the Tony Award-winning musical "Cabaret," the decadent world of 1930's Berlin comes to life. A rich group of characters comes together to find their destinies linked and their futures uncertain on the eve of the rise of the Third Reich. By turns defiant and melancholy, brazen and gleeful, "Cabaret" sizzles with thrilling songs such as "Wilkommen" and "Money."

The second show of the Summer Dinner Theatre season, "All Shook Up," combines all-time favorite Elvis hits with a whole new story, creating fun for rock 'n' roll rebels of all ages. The story takes place in the Midwest in the 1950's, where a young girl dreams of hitting the open road and meets a guitar player who changes everything "All Shook Up" is inspired by and features the songs of Elvis Presley.

Montgomery College's Summer Dinner Theatre is an annual training ground for both aspiring musical theatre performers and behind-the-scenes artists. Student performers audition for roles and technicians apply for production work. Performers include Montgomery College theatre and music majors, visiting students who study during the year at various universities, talented high school students, and members of the community. Those chosen to participate enroll at Montgomery College for 10 weeks of hands-on education in everything from singing and dancing, to costumes and lighting.

For some students, Summer Dinner Theatre marks the first time they have worked alongside professionals to learn the craft of acting and theatre production. In true dinner theatre fashion, the students also serve as waiters at the performances.

Tickets for Summer Dinner Theatre are $37 for adults and $27 for children ages 12 and under. Prices include the performance and a full dinner buffet. At Friday and Saturday night performances, the doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with a show time of 8:15 p.m. On Sunday, the buffet will open at 12:30 p.m., with a 2:15 p.m. show time.

All performances are held in the Theatre Arts Arena on the College's Rockville Campus, located at 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, MD 20850.
