Police Make an Arrest for Attempted Rape in Rockville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section have arrested Jerry Gibbons, age 29, of the 4800 block of Red Fox Road in Rockville, for attempted rape that occurred early this morning in Rockville.

This morning at 2:30 a.m., 1st District officers responded to a homeless camp located in a wooded area near the 12000 block of Rockville Pike in Rockville, for the report of an attempted rape that had just occurred.

The preliminary investigation revealed that yesterday evening a 38-year-old female victim from Rockville met homeless friends at a camp where several others including the suspect were drinking and socializing. At approximately 1:00 a.m. the female victim decided to walk home. The suspect followed her and forced her to the ground where he attempted to rape her. The victim screamed and was heard by friends at the camp who interrupted the assault. Police were called and they located the suspect nearby.

He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on a no bond status.
