1 BLACK

Incident 1 - January 14, 2009

On January 14 at 3:35 p.m. at the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Broadwood Drive in Rockville.

Through the course of the investigation it was learned that the driver, an 83-year-old Rockville man, and two 83-year-old female passengers from Rockville, were traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road approaching Broadwood Drive. For unknown reasons, the vehicle, a gray 1997 Toyota Camry, left the roadway and struck a metal traffic signal pole.

The driver was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The two passengers are in critical condition. All three were not wearing seatbelts.

Incident 2 - February 1, 2009

On February 2 at approximately 12:38 p.m. today, 1st District officers and fire/rescue responded to the report of a traffic collision at 12630 Veirs Mill Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Johvanny Alonso Garmendez, age 17, of the 2800 block of Parker Avenue in Silver Spring, was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota struck the right-hand curb and left the roadway. The vehicle continued off the roadway, striking a tree with the vehicle coming apart in two large pieces. The front and rear parts of the vehicle came to rest at the bottom of the embankment in the apartment complex parking lot at 12630 Veirs Mill Road.

The passenger of the vehicle was ejected from the vehicle after striking the tree and the vehicle broke apart. He was pronounced dead on the scene. He has been identified as Thiago Andrade, 17-years-old, of the 13000 block of Congress Drive in Rockville. He was in 11th grade at Rockville High School. He was wearing his seatbelt.

Incident 3 - February 9, 2009

On February 9 at approximately 8:55 p.m., a Third District officer discovered a vehicle collision on East Randolph Road at Octagon Lane. Additional police officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit indicates that the vehicle, for unknown reasons lost control, struck a curb and then struck a light pole. The vehicle is described as a 4 door Chevrolet, gray in color.

Incident 4 - February 28, 2009

On Saturday, February 28 at approximately 1:46 a.m. police responded to Brink Road near Wildcat Road for the report of a serious traffic accident.

Preliminary investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit indicates that the driver of a 1999 Subaru Impreza, for unknown reasons crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with a 2007 Chevy Silverado truck.

The 23 year old driver of the Subaru was pronounced at the scene. The 42 year old driver of the Chevy was not injured.

Incident 5 - February 28, 2009

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate the now fatal collision that occurred early on February 28 on Darnestown Road near Bellingham Drive in Germantown. Yesterday at approximately 7:00 p.m., Dale Miller Carnahan, 18 years old, of Poolesville, died as a result of his injuries. He was the front-seat passenger in the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt.

It was on February 28 at approximately 2:37 a.m., that 5th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the report of a traffic collision in the 15500 block of Darnestown Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2000 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling westbound on Darnestown Road approaching Bellingham Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Jetta left the roadway and struck an electrical utility pole which caused the pole to break in two pieces. The vehicle continued off the roadway, striking a tree before coming to rest.

Incident 6 - June 11, 2009

At approximately 9:55 a.m., Takoma Park officers responded to the 1000 block of Merwood Drive in Takoma Park for the report of a single vehicle personal injury collision.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the 84-year-old female victim drove her gold 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue into the driveway at the address in the 1000 block of Merwood Drive after running errands. As she began to exit the vehicle, the vehicle was not secured in park and began to roll back collecting and pinning the victim underneath the vehicle. The victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Incident 7 - June 13, 2009

At approximately 1:46 a.m., police from the 4th District and fire/rescue personnel responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the 14700 block of Good Hope Road in the greater Colesville area of Silver Spring. Upon arrival they found a vehicle off the road with 5 occupants.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a tan 2000 Honda Civic with Maryland tags was traveling from the direction of New Hampshire Avenue toward Briggs Chaney Road. Near the intersection of Good Hope Road and Twigg Road, the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a utility pole on the right side of the roadway. The adult male driver was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver has been identified as Genry Obdulio Vasquez Gonzalez, 28 years old, of the 300 block of Thomas Drive in Laurel. He was wearing his seatbelt.

Incident 8 - June 18, 2009

At approximately 3:12 a.m. at the intersection of Frederick Road and Running Brook Drive in Clarksburg.

Through the course of the investigation it was learned that the driver and passenger, both 18-year-old males from Boyds, were traveling southbound on Frederick Road approaching Running Brook Drive. For unknown reasons, the vehicle, a blue 2006 BMW M3, crossed over into the northbound lanes and struck a wooden power pole.

The driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts. The victim is not being identified at this time pending family notification.

Incident 9 - June 20, 2009

At approximately 2:12 a.m. on Georgia Avenue near Gregg Road.

Through the course of the investigation it was learned that the driver for unknown reasons left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle is described as an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, red in color.

Incident 10 - June 26, 2009

At 7:23 p.m. Friday, Second District officers responded to the scene of a serious collision on Connecticut Avenue near East West Highway. Arriving officers and rescue personnel located a Toyota minivan with eight passengers. Two of the passengers were pronounced dead on the scene by Montgomery County Fire and rescue personnel.

The first victim has been identified as 40 year old Kelly M. Murray of Chevy Chase; the second victim is a 7 year old female. There were six additional female passengers in the vehicle ranging in ages from 10 months to 11 years. All were transported to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

Incident 11 - July 12, 2009

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are continuing to investigate a single-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday morning July 11, 2009 at approximately 6:18 a.m. in the 6900 block of Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda.

At approximately 12:00 p.m on July 12, 2009., the driver of the vehicle, Pedro Ivo Sobral Canuto, died of his injuries. He was 22 years old and resided in the 10300 block of Gainsborough Road in Potomac.

Incident 12 - July 12, 2009

On July 12 at 6:32 a.m., 5th District officers and fire/rescue responded to the 14600 block of Hughes Road in Poolesville for a vehicle that was over turned. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle off the road. The 20-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through the course of investigation, it was determined that green 2001 Honda Civic was traveling south in the 14600 block of Hughes Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda left road, struck a tree, and came to rest on its side.

The driver has been identified as Ni'Keem Malik Banana, 20 years old, of the 19600 block of Wootton Avenue in Poolesville. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Incident 13 - July 21, 2009

At approximately 4:00 p.m., a Ford F450 XL landscaping truck collided with a Chevy Astro van in the 28900 block of Kemptown Road in Damascus. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford truck was traveling in an eastbound direction on Kemptown Road. For unknown reasons it left the roadway. It came back into the westbound lane of Kemptown Road and collided with the Chevy van. The adult male driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. The adult female driver of the landscaping truck was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where she remains in critical condition.

Incident 14 - July 29, 2009

At approximately 7:00 pm a collision involving three vehicles occurred in the 16000 block of Crabbs Branch Road in Rockville. One adult male passenger was pronounced dead on the scene by Fire / Rescue personnel. Three adults and one child were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non life threatening injuries. The name of the deceased victim is not being released pending notification of family members.

Incident 15 - August 17, 2009

At approximately 4:00 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to a traffic collision that had just occurred in Kensington. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Tanya Dooher, age 86, of the 3600 block of Taylor Street in Chevy Chase, was driving her 2000 silver Buick Century southbound on Connecticut Avenue in the area of Beach Drive. The vehicle was observed being driven erratically and the victim’s head appeared to be back rather than upright. For unknown reasons, after traveling under Route 495, the vehicle crossed the median into the northbound lanes, and came to rest after striking a telephone pole on the far side of the road.

Incident 16 - September 8, 2009

At approximately 12:49 p.m., 5th District officers responded to the 23800 block of Woodfield Road near the intersection of Pleasant View Lane in Damascus for the report of a two vehicle personal injury collision.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the 61-year-old male victim was traveling in his gray 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Woodfield Road approaching Pleasant View Lane. For unknown reasons the Jeep crossed the double yellow lines and collided with a Montgomery County Government Ride On bus traveling northbound on Woodfield Road. The bus was driven by a 64-year-old male.

While there were an undetermined number of passengers on the bus, the driver and one passenger were the only victims transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Incident 17 - November 30, 2009

At approximately 2:40 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the 5800 block of Muncaster Mill Road, just north of Avery Park Drive in Derwood, for the report of a personal injury collision involving a motorcycle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 26-year-old male victim, identified as Paul Garo Mossessian, of the 5900 block of Willow Knoll Drive in Derwood, was traveling on a red 2008 Ducati motorcycle northbound on Muncaster Mill Road.

For unknown reasons, the motorcycle crossed the center line and into the southbound lanes of Muncaster Mill Road and collided with a blue 2007 Pontiac G5 sedan. The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Incident 18 - December 2, 2009

Last night at approximately 7:50 p.m., the driver of the Honda, Edward Francis Hawkins, succumbed to his injuries at Suburban Hospital. He was 90 years old and resided in the 1900 block of Everest Street in Silver Spring.

Through yesterday’s preliminary investigation, it was determined that Edward Francis Hawkins was driving a silver 2007 Honda Civic southbound on Georgia Avenue. As he was making a left turn onto August Drive, for reasons still under investigation, he took the turn too wide and struck the curb. Hawkins then struck cement steps and traveled onto the grassy area of a residence on the corner of that intersection. After striking a pedestrian crossing sign, the vehicle came back onto August Drive where it collided with a 2003 Peterbilt dump truck. The dump truck was being driven by Henry Hinton, age 70, of the 4900 block of Nash Street in Washington, D.C. The dump truck was sitting stationary waiting at the red signal when it was struck on August Drive. Mr. Hinton was not injured during the collision.

Incident 19 - December 27, 2009

At approximately 7:50 a.m., 4th District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 6300 block of Muncaster Mill Road, for a report of a serious personnel injury collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 1999 Toyota 4 Runner, silver in color, was traveling northbound on Muncaster Mill Road, north of Bowie Mill Road. The driver lost control of his vehicle on the icy roadway, struck the curb, then struck a tree and came to rest in the wooded area on the eastside of the roadway. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
