3rd District Weekly Crime Summary - May 14, 2008 Reporting Period: April 29, 2008 to May 7, 2008
G1 Beat: • There were two commercial burglaries that occurred at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, 8380 Colesville Road #600 in Silver Spring. The first incident occurred between Wednesday, 4/30 and Thursday, 5/01. A second burglary occurred between Friday, 5/2 and Monday, 5/5. Both incidents were forced entry, property taken from the second incident. • An aggravated assault occurred when a trespasser cut a manager with a knife at American Apparel, 8701 Colesville Road in Silver Spring on Monday, 5/5 at 6:45 p.m. • Stolen vehicle:
G2 Beat: • An armed robbery occurred at the Forest Glen Deli, 536 Forest Glen Road in Silver Spring on Tuesday, 5/6 at 6:58 p.m. The suspects entered the store displaying a shotgun. Cash was removed from the cash register. The suspects fled in a red pickup truck. Suspects were a Hispanic male, 30’s, 5’6”, tall with gold around one tooth. The other suspect was an unknown male. • A residential burglary occurred in the 9700 block of Woodland Drive in Silver Spring between Thursday, 5/4 and Sunday, 5/4. H1 Beat: • An armed robbery occurred in the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Saturday, 5/3 at 2:40 a.m. The suspects approached the victim and displayed a piece of glass and threatened him. Property taken. Suspects were three Hispanic males, 18 to 28 years old. • An armed robbery occurred at Carroll Avenue and 11th Avenue in Takoma Park on Wednesday, 4/30 at 5:20 a.m. The suspect approached the victim and displayed a handgun and a knife and demanded her purse. Suspect was a H/M, 28 to 30 years old, 5’5” tall and 130 lbs. • An aggravated assault (domestic dispute) with a knife occurred in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Saturday, 5/3 at 9:00 p.m. The suspect and victim are related to one another. The female victim was cut by the male suspect. • An attempted assault with a knife occurred at Sligo Creek Parkway and Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Friday, 5/1 at 8:42 a.m. The victim had gotten off the bus; the suspect approached him and attempted to cut him with a knife. A 25-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested. • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 8300 block of Garland Avenue in Takoma Park on Saturday, 5/3 at 2:00 am. The adult female victim heard someone attempting to force entry. No entry was gained. An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 9200 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Thursday, 5/1 at 1:50 p.m. The victim was inside when he heard banging on his front door. When the victim spoke, the suspects fled in a vehicle. Suspects are three Hispanic males, 26 to 30 years old; driving a 96 black Chevrolet SUV with MD tags. • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Ruatan Street in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/30 at 12:20 a.m. The victim heard someone attempted to open a side widow. The victim screamed and the unknown suspect fled. • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/30, at 12:01 a.m. The victim was sleeping when the unknown suspect attempted to force open a bedroom window. H2 Beat: • A 17-year-old female was raped in the 1500 block of Hampshire West Court in Silver Spring on Sunday, 5/4 at 5:00 p.m. The victim was dropped off to do laundry and the suspect, a friend of the family, invited her into his apartment. The suspect has been identified. • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 300 block of Timberwood Avenue in Silver Spring on Tuesday, 5/06 at 3:15 p.m. The victim said he and friend were walking when they were attacked property was taken. Two suspects were arrested in the area. An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, both from Silver Spring, were arrested • An armed robbery occurred in front of the 7-11 Store, #2 University Blvd West in Silver Spring on Sunday, 5/4 at 4:06 a.m. The victim was leaving the store, when the suspects approached and displayed a knife. Suspects were four B/M’s wearing masks. • A residential burglary occurred in the 10800 block of Lorain Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, 5/5 at 8:10 a.m. Unknown entry, unknown if property taken. An 18-yer-old male from Silver Spring was arrested. • A residential burglary occurred at a house under construction in the 100 block of Southwood Avenue in Silver Spring on Sunday, 5/4 between 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Forced entry, property taken. A W/M, 45 to 55 was seen in the area. • A residential burglary occurred in the 9900 block of Cherry Tree Lane in Silver Spring on Saturday, 5/3 between 11:50 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Forced entry, property taken. • Stolen vehicles:
I1 Beat: • An attempted robbery occurred in the 11400 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/30 at 5:30 p.m. Police were working in the area and saw the suspects following the victim and approach him several times. It was later determined that they had attempted to rob him. One male suspect age 14, from White Oak, was arrested by patrol. Two other suspects, both black male teens were identified. • A strong-arm robbery of a pizza delivery person occurred in the 11500 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring on Friday, 5/2 at 10:40 p.m. The victim had just made a delivery, when the suspects approached and attacked him. Property taken. Suspects were three B/M’s 18 to 20 years old, who fled in a 1990 white 2-door vehicle. • A residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Rosemere Avenue in Silver Spring on Tuesday, 5/6 between 7:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. No forced entry, property taken. • A residential burglary occurred in the 1300 block of Chilton Drive in Silver Spring on Friday, 5/02 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Forced entry, property taken. Suspects are two B/M, both in their teens. • A residential burglary occurred in the 1400 block of Milestone Drive in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/30 at 9:45 p.m. The victim had a dispute with one of the suspects, who later came back with several friends. Forced entry, no property taken. Multiple suspects. • A commercial burglary occurred at a construction site, 12612 Galway Drive in Silver Spring between Friday, 5/02 and Saturday, 5/03. Forced entry, property taken. I2 Beat: • An aggravated assault with a knife occurred at McDonalds, 15569 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville on Friday, 5/02 at 4:37 p.m. The suspect had gotten into a dispute with the manager and displayed a knife. The 58-year-old male suspect from Silver Spring, fled but was arrested in the area by patrol. • A residential burglary occurred in the 3300 block of Teagarden Circle in Silver Spring on Tuesday, 5/06 at 2:30 a.m. The suspect is the victim’s ex-boy friend and had been in the apartment earlier drinking. Suspect, a 47-year-old male from Baltimore, was arrested in the area by patrol. • An attempted residential burglary was discovered in the 13600 block of Colgate Way in Silver Spring on Sunday, 5/04. Unknown entry, nothing taken. • A residential burglary occurred in the 3800 block of Stepping Stone Lane in Burtonsville on Friday, 5/02 at 10:40 a.m. Forced entry. Victims saw suspects: two B/M, 16 to 17 years old, 5’10” to 6’0” tall. One was armed with a handgun and the other was armed with a knife. • An indecent exposure occurred at Wexhall Drive and Greencastle Road in Burtonsville on Thursday, 5/01 at 10:05 a.m. The suspect was seen leaving the area in a vehicle. Suspect was chased into Prince George’s County (chase was stopped at the county line) and involved in a crash at Rt. 198 and Old Gunpowder Road. The suspect, a 36-year-old male was arrested. He was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan, black in color with a stolen license plate. • Stolen vehicle:
