Pedestrian Injured in Silver Spring Hit and Run

Officers from the Montgomery County Police 3rd District are investigating a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian in Silver Spring tonight. At 8:54 pm on Monday, March 17, 2008, a pedestrian was attempting to cross University Boulevard at E. Wayne Avenue; he was not in a crosswalk. There is a crosswalk at that location and New University Boulevard is separated by a grassy median. The pedestrian, (only identified as a white male), was struck by a vehicle heading Eastbound on University Boulevard, the driver of the striking vehicle did not remain on the scene.
The vehicle is described as dark colored Acura, unknown color or model. The striking vehicle should have damage to the front, perhaps a broken headlight or windshield. A witness did remain on the scene and provided investigating officers a statement. The pedestrian was transported via ambulance by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue as a priority trauma to a local trauma center. The pedestrian is listed in critical condition and is expected to survive his injuries.
Investigators will determine the cause of the collision and any contributing circumstances, including illumination.
