Free Tax Assistance Available for Low and Moderate Income County Residents

The Montgomery County Community Action Agency will offer free income tax assistance to low and moderate income residents beginning February 1. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program offers free assistance to households earning $38,000 or less annually, including persons with disabilities, limited English proficiency and seniors. Free electronic filing for faster refunds is also available.
Trained volunteers will be available by appointment Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and selected Saturdays (February 10 and 17, March 10 and 17, April 7 and 14) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Progress Place in downtown Silver Spring. Progress Place is located at 8210 Colonial Lane, Silver Spring. Free tax assistance by appointment is also available Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Takoma East Silver Spring Center (TESS), located at 8513 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.
