January 23 January 30
ROCKVILLE, Md., January 16, 2008 – The City of Rockville’s Planning and Zoning Ordinance, the local legislation that sets the standards for development within the City, is undergoing a major update and revision. The Draft Zoning Ordinance that has been proposed focuses on using zoning tools that are appropriate for infill and redevelopment such as implementing mixed-use zones with buildings compatible with existing neighborhoods. Defining a clear development process that incorporates public input also is vital to finalizing the Draft Zoning Ordinance.
The public has its first chance to speak on the proposed Draft Zoning Ordinance. The Planning Commission has scheduled two public hearings on Wednesday, Jan. 23, and Wednesday, Jan. 30. Both hearings will be held in the Mayor and Council Chambers in City Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and to give public testimony. The Planning Commission will consider this input as it reviews the document and will forward recommendations for changes to the Mayor and Council.
To sign-up to speak in advance, call 240-314-8220 and ask to be placed on the speakers list. Walk-ins also are welcome to speak.
