Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Silver Spring Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred today in Silver Spring. At 6:59 AM today, 3rd District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the report of a serious personal injury collision involving a pedestrian that occurred at 11499 Columbia Pike near the Bank of America in Silver Spring. The preliminary investigation revealed that a truck made a left turn from southbound Columbia Pike and was attempting to negotiate a right turn onto the service road access from Stewart lane when for unknown reasons the rear wheels separated from the trailer causing the trailer to lose control and collide with a pedestrian in the area of the service road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is still under investigation and further details will be released via a press release as information is received. Anyone who witnessed this collision and has not already spoken to police is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Update Update Update Update Victim Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Collision Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred today in Silver Spring. The victim is identified as Norma Almeraya-Soria, age 35, of the 11000 block of Stewart Lane in Silver Spring. At 6:59 a.m. today, 3rd District officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the report of a serious personal injury collision involving a pedestrian that occurred at 11499 Columbia Pike near the Bank of America in Silver Spring. The preliminary investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer truck made a left turn from southbound Columbia Pike and was attempting to negotiate a right turn onto the service road access from Stewart lane when for unknown reasons the rear wheels separated from the trailer causing the trailer to lose control and collide with a pedestrian in the area of the service road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck is identified as Reginald McClurkin, age 53, of the 7000 block of Sandstone Court, Ellicott City, Md. As is the standard procedure for a fatal collision, a determination of any charges will be made after the investigation is completed and in cooperation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
