October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Montgomery County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council is hosting a public forum on October 17 to help residents better understand the issue and how it is addressed in the criminal justice system. The free event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gaithersburg High School, located at 314 S. Frederick Avenue.

Those who attend the event will be eligible for door prizes that include weekend overnights, breakfast at local Marriott hotels and gift certificates for dinners at restaurants at the new Rockville Town Center.
