Montgomery County 9-1-1 Center Experiences Disruption to Phone Service

Today between 11:23 a.m. and 11:32 a.m., the Montgomery County Public Safety Communications Center (MCPSCC) experienced an outage to their primary phone system. The cause for that disruption in service is not yet known. The back-up phone system was immediately activated to restore 9-1-1- service.

There was disruption to the non-emergency 301-279-8000 line during that time period as well.

The Public Safety 9-1-1 phone system is maintained by Verizon, and Verizon technicians responded to the center and are working to restore functionality to the primary system. Calls were answered from the MCPSCC until approximately 2:45 p.m. At that time both 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls were transferred to the fully equipped Alternate Emergency Communications Center (AECC) site in downtown Rockville. Both 9-1-1 and non-emergency lines were confirmed to be in full operation from the AECC.
