DownCounty Consortium Open House

All Montgomery County public and private school Grade 8 students and their parents/guardians who reside in the Downcounty Consortium (DCC) area are invited to attend evening information meetings and open houses to learn about the high school options available to their students in the DCC. The five high schools in the Consortium include: Montgomery Blair, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, Northwood, and Wheaton. The information meetings and open houses are scheduled for October and November.

Three information meetings will be provided to parents and students to learn about the academy programs at each of the DCC high schools, an overview of the Choice process, and information about transportation. The same information will be presented by high school and central office staff at each meeting. Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. and will be presented in Chinese, English, French, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese.

Parents of Grade 8 students in Special Education programs who are interested in learning more about DCC high school options are invited to attend the meeting on October 24th at Wheaton High School from 6*7 p.m. Parents attending the 6*7 p.m. meeting are invited to attend the general evening meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

In addition to attending one of the DCC high school information meetings, Montgomery County parents of Grade 8 students in private schools interested in participating in the Choice process are invited to attend the private school enrollment meeting at 7 p.m. on December
3, 2007, to enroll their child in MCPS. Call 301-592-2040 to receive detailed information about required documents.

In November, parents and Grade 8 students are invited to attend all five open houses. The open houses held at the five DCC high schools provide opportunities for parents and students to visit the schools, learn about the unique aspects of the schools and academy programs, and meet key staff members. The information at each open house will be unique to that school’s program. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.
