Montgomery County’s Office of Emergency Management, which is part of the County’s Homeland Security Department, reminds residents during this National Emergency Preparedness Month that that there are a variety of volunteer opportunities available throughout the year in which to help others during emergencies.
Volunteer opportunities exist in the following organizations, which provide critical services to Montgomery County during emergencies. They include:
Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. Inc. – Canine Search Unit
Montgomery County, Mid-Atlantic DOGS specializes in air scenting and tracking dogs used to locate people in wilderness settings, suburban areas, criminal investigations, and collapsed structures. Some dogs can even locate bodies submerged underwater. Members train with dogs at least one full day a week.
