Junior Achievement Essay Competition to Award $110,000 in Scholarships

Junior Achievement of Greater Washington is pleased to announce the 2012 Junior Achievement Essay Competition, sponsored by David M. Rubenstein. This fall, JA invites students and schools to compete for a total of $110,000 in scholarships and $18,000 in school grants.
$110,000 in Scholarships for Student Winners The competition is open to any student in the 9th-12th grade in Greater Washington from August 22 – October 31, 2012, and will ask students to write a 1,000-1,500 word essay. The topic will be announced on August 22, and students will be able to submit their essays online at www.myJA.org/students/essay/.
Three winners from each of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. In addition, one grand prize winner selected from among all applicants will receive a $20,000 scholarship. Further, the schools from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia with the greatest number of eligible applications will each receive a $6,000 school grant.
Three $6,000 Grants for Local Schools Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to empowering young people to own their economic success. JA’s programs focus on the key content areas of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. In partnership with businesses and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential and preparing them for the workplace.
