Rockville City Police Honored at Annual Public Safety Awards

Rockville, Md., June 15, 2012 - Four members of the Rockville City Police Department were honored at the 23rd Annual Public Safety Awards. Officers Edgar Vallejo and Justin Pieck, Cpl. Steve Malko, and dispatcher Allie Frishkorn were awarded the Distinguished Service Citation.

Vallejo and Pieck were recognized for successfully locating a child with Down Syndrome who wandered away from his parents into the woods. Malko was honored for saving the life of a woman who stopped breathing while driving her car. Frishkorn was recognized for talking a woman who called dispatch out of committing suicide.

In addition to Rockville's honorees, a civilian and members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and Rockville Volunteer Fire Department received awards.

The City of Rockville, Rockville Chamber of Commerce and Rockville Gazette host the annual awards with the support of nonprofit and community groups.
