Community Support Grows for New EMS Reimbursement Legislation

The Western Montgomery Citizens Advisory Board, reversing its earlier opposition in 2010, this week endorsed the new Emergency Medical Services Transport Insurance Reimbursement Act now before the Council, which would allow the County to be reimbursed by private health insurance companies and the federal government for ambulance service, just as hospitals seek reimbursement from insurers for treating patients.

The Western Montgomery CAB represents Bethesda, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Garrett Park, Glen Echo, North Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, and White Flint.

“Based on the significant body of evidence stemming from implementation in other jurisdictions, the program will do no harm to County residents,” wrote Western Montgomery CAB chair Heather Dlhopolsky to the County Council. “Given this, we can no longer justify forgoing revenue that could actually strengthen our ability to deliver essential services.”
