Linkages to Learning Sites Receive Grants Through Local Donation

Montgomery County’s Linkages to Learning program recently announced the first group of Linkages to Learning sites to receive the 2007 Ganek Family Mini Grant for Innovative Education, established by Montgomery County residents Jeff and Lynne Ganek.

The $500 mini grants will be awarded to the Yoga Tales Project at Viers Mill Elementary School, the Parkland Power Poetry Project at Parkland Middle School and the After-School Butterfly Garden Habitat Project at Rosemount Elementary School.

The three programs may use the grants to bring creative, learning enrichment opportunities to students in the schools during the upcoming school year. “People should talk less and do more,” said Lynne Brenner Ganek, a lifelong educator and original associate producer of the award-winning PBS “Reading Rainbow” series. “Some of us can do this by sharing our skills, and talent, and some by opening our homes, hearts, and checkbooks.
