Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and County Council member Phil Andrews will present refund checks to several consumers as part of the $1 million settlement from the lawsuit against Thomas Warner and Warner Companies filed in 1996.
Following an investigation by the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection, it was determined that more than 10,000 consumers were overcharged between 1993 and 1995 as part of a “bonus hour” scheme operated by the Warner plumbing companies. The funds were placed into a Consumer Restitution Fund to compensate those consumers who did business with the company during this time period. Close to 3,000 consumers have received refund checks ranging from $38 to $8,055.
