| White Flint streetscape spruce-up A novel program that began in mid-May to enhance and improve the White Flint area in advance of new development in the corridor is already producing noticeable results.
A weekend maintenance team, made up of persons required to perform weekend community service, has been cleaning up streets and sidewalks in the greater White Flint area. From 9 am to 3 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, a nine-person maintenance team completes tasks assigned by the B-CC Regional Services Center. Tasks include routine maintenance, such as weed control, sidewalk sweeping and litter collection. The team also has performed special clean-up projects, including filling thousands of bags with debris from the derecho storm. The weekend maintenance program is a joint effort of the White Flint Ad Hoc Urban Services Committee, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center and the Montgomery County Department of Corrections. The maintenance team is directly supervised by Department of Corrections personnel and is outfitted with equipment and supplies by the regional services center. |
