Rockville to Host 2012 DARCARS Rotary Twilight Runfest

27th Annual Festival Benefits Youth Recreation Fund

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 10, 2012 - The 27th annual DARCARS Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest will take place on Saturday, July 21, at N. Washington Street and Middle Lane in Rockville Town Center beginning at 8:45 p.m.

The Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest is one of the most popular races of the summer in the National Capital area. The event, which gets started at twilight, consists of an 8K race, including a wheelchair division, and a 1K fun run, followed by live music by Sons of Pirates and refreshments.

The 2012 Runfest is the 27th running of Rockville's summer night block party. Sign up now to participate. Registration times and fees are:

• Now until Friday, July 20, at 5 p.m., $37 online only
• Friday, July 20, 5 to 8 p.m., $37 at Potomac River Running in Rockville Town Square
• Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., $42 at Potomac River Running in Rockville Town Square

The 8K race also includes a team competition for runners who wish to register as a team. Teams must consist of five or more runners and must include at least two men and two women.

The DARCARS Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest is presented by the Rockville Rotary Club, hosted by the City of Rockville and conducted by the Montgomery County Road Runners Club. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Rockville Youth Recreation Fund, which provides assistance to children who may not otherwise be able to participate in City programs, activities and camps. The race also funds Rockville Rotary Scholarships that greatly aid community projects.

The 8K course winds through Rockville's neighborhood streets, including Beall Avenue, N. Washington Street, Martins Lane, Campus Drive around Montgomery College-Rockville Campus, Hungerford Drive and Mannakee Street. The course will be closed to traffic and monitored by course marshals. Medical aid stations will also be open on the course.
