Police stations moving

Montgomery County, 1st district

The 1st district police station on Seven Locks Road in Rockville will relocate soon to its new location, 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg. The new location will also house the headquarters offices of the county police department, fire department, emergency management and homeland security.

The Seven Locks Road building being vacated will be demolished. A new jail will be built on the site to replace the aging Montgomery County detention center, also on Seven Locks Road.

City of Rockville police headquarters

The new state-of-the-art City of Rockville police headquarters is expected to open this summer. It will be in the heart of downtown Rockville on the site of  the historic post office at 2 West Montgomery Avenue, which was built in 1939 and closed in 2006. The City of Rockville assumed ownership in 2008.  The old structure was razed and a new building constructed on the site to meet current needs.

Rockville 0pen house on historic preservation

On Thursday, June 21, 5-8 pm, the City of Rockville's Community Planning and Development Services is holding an open house to kick off two related city planning and historic preservation projects:
  • the historic preservation element of the comprehensive master plan
  • the heritage area amendment to join the Montgomery county Heritage Area
The open house, at 111 Maryland Avenue in Rockville, will be the first of several opportunities for the public to provide input on both projects. City staff will be on hand to describe the planning process, answer questions and hear ideas.

For more information, call 240-314-8230.

Visitors can get get a glimpse into the past and see structures and lands that have been preserved from as far back as the late 18th century. Several of the parks capture the African American experience from the late 19th century, including Josiah Henson Special Park (see below). Free.
