Scholarship Information
If you are a student applying for the Olney Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, applications are due to the Chamber office by April 20, 2012. Applications are available on the Chamber website for all students as well as students with a documented learning disability. If you are an individual or business that would like to support the Scholarship Fund, please do so by April 1, 2012. Donations are accepted after that date. Earlier donations will allow the Chamber to determine how many scholarships can be awarded this year. Scholarships are $1000 and so far the Chamber can award 2.5 scholarships. With your help, our goal is to award 4 scholarships to deserving students in the greater Olney area. Click here to donate today.

Trevor Waddington, Scholarship Chair, is looking for a couple of Chamber members to help review the applications and select the recipients of this year's scholarships. Applications are given to committee members a couple of days in advance of the selection meeting. National election campaigns are in full swing but the Olney Chamber of Commerce would like its members to take a few minutes and think about leadership in their local Chamber. Are you inters ted in serving on the Olney Chamber Board of Directors? There are several positions open this year. If you are interested and would like to learn more, call the Chamber office at 301.774.7117 or email by April 6.

If you can't serve on the Chamber Board of Directors you might consider chair/co-chair of the National Night Out Committee. National Night Out is an event that focuses on police awareness and crime prevention. This year's event will be held on Tuesday, August 7. The Chamber partners with Longwood Community Center, the Montgomery County Police, the MD-National Capital Park Police and the Sandy Spring Fire Department to bring this event to the greater Olney community. The committee meets 4 times to coordinate the event and then oversees the event on August 7. Please call the Chamber office if you are interested in this opportunity.

Sandy Spring Museum Lecture: The Life of a Slave will be the subject of a talk at the Sandy Spring Museum, Saturday, March 31 at 11 am. Kym Rice, Director of Museum Studies Program at The George Washington University, will be discussing the objects and practices of enslaved blacks. Dr. Rice will be joined by Michael Twitty, a recognized culinary historian, and living history interpreter focused on historic African American food and folk culture.  $10 admission, $5 for members and students. Annual Meeting: Join Greater Sandy Spring Green Space for the 2012 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. Guest Speaker will be Ms. Meo Curits, Manager of the Stormwater Permit Coordination of the Montgomery County Dept. of Environmental Protection. Crazy For You!: Our Lady of Good Counsel High School’s Fine Arts Department is pleased to present their spring musical production, Ken Ludwig’s Crazy for You. The story of Bobby Child, a well-to-do 1930's playboy, whose dream in life is to dance!
